The strategic directions taken by the company are largely formulated by Pavement
Recycling Systems (PRS) senior management council and the company's independent
Board of Directors.
Return on investment through recycling
Fundamental to these strategies is the PRS commitment to aiding local transportation
agencies get more value for their investment in street reconstruction largely by
recouping prior investments.
Ninety to ninety-five percent of any street or roadway is composed of the aggregates
(rock, gravel and sand) that are used in making the pavement section. When roads
wear out, it is the binder (typically asphalt or cement) that fails – not the aggregate
per se.
Recycling the remaining good parts of the binder and the aggregate substantially
reduces the costs of street rehabilitation.
Even more money and energy can be saved if the roadway is recycled in place – instead
of hauling the old pavement or in-place soils away, and further congesting the highways.
Most in-place soils can be treated with engineered additives and reprocessed in
place yielding structural sections equal to or superior to more expensive aggregate-based
solutions.
Full-scale integration: one-stop solution
PRS is the only company in California committed to full-scale integration of environmentally
sound solutions for every stage of pavement life, from preservation to reclamation.
We have attained this "one stop shop" position through a combination of internal
R & D, strategic partnerships, and acquisitions.
Pavement Coatings Company, the experts in pavement preservation
since 1975, became a division of Pavement Recycling Systems in 2006. This puts PRS
at the forefront in applying tried and true pavement preservation strategies as
well as developing new systems that extend pavement life at lower cost. In addition
to conventional slurries and microsurfacing, this enables us to develop new products
such as our premixed REAS (partnering with Petrochem Manufacturing) and 100% RAP
slurry.
Reclaimed Aggregates Inc. became a PRS company in 2005, providing
us with concrete and asphalt recycling centers to produce consistent, high-quality
reclaimed aggregates for our 100% RAP slurry and other recycled products. The recycling
facilities accept chunky AC removals, concrete debris, and clean grindings. Products
manufactured include RAP chips, RAP Slurry Dust (Type I and II), Crushed Miscellaneous
base, AC Base, RAP Base, and mixing aggregates for CCPR.
